The Ups and Downs of Being a New Company

We have been working really hard, trying to get our name out there. Starting a DJ company can be exciting, but it can also be a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, especially when you are doing it as a married couple.

Some of the Ups include:

  1. Shared Passion: One of the biggest advantages of starting a DJ company with your spouse is that you share a passion for music. This common interest can bring you closer together and help create a business that reflects both personalities and styles. My husband's specialty is hip-hop and R&B and mine is the 80's.

  2. Division of Labor: Starting a business is a lot of work, and having a partner who can share the workload can be incredibly helpful. when you share a business, you can divide the work load based on your strengths and weaknesses, allowing each of you to focus on the areas where you excel.

  3. Teamwork: When you're in business with your spouse, you're not just partners; you're a team. This teamwork can help you overcome obstacles, work through challenges, and achieve your goals together. You have a built-in support system, which can be a tremendous asset when things get tough.

  4. Flexibility: As a married couple, you likely have a flexible schedule that allows you to work around each other's commitments. This flexibility can be helpful when it comes to booking gigs, meeting with clients, and managing the day-to-day operations of your business.

Some of the downs:

  1. Work-Life Balance: When you're running a business with your spouse, it can be challenging to separate your work life from your personal life. You may find that you're always talking about work, even during your downtime, which can put a strain on your relationship. DJ Gary and I hold business meetings. We have our own separate tasks and touch base on Sundays.

  2. Communication: Communication is essential in any business partnership, but it's especially crucial when you're in business with your spouse. You need to be able to communicate effectively, share your thoughts and opinions, and be open to feedback without letting it affect your personal relationship.

  3. Conflict Resolution: When you're working with your spouse, disagreements can arise, and it's important to have a plan for resolving conflicts in a healthy and productive way. You need to be able to separate your personal feelings from your business decisions and work through any issues that arise.

  4. Financial Stress: Starting a business can be financially stressful, and it can be even more challenging when you're doing it as a married couple. You need to be able to manage your finances effectively and make sound business decisions that won't put a strain on your personal finances or relationship.

Starting a DJ company as a married couple can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges. The key to success is communication, teamwork, and a shared passion for what you do. If you can find a way to balance your work and personal lives, communicate effectively, and manage your finances, you can build a successful business and a strong, healthy relationship with your spouse.
